What I did on my holiday (aka The long weekend)

So I had a day off on Friday, and there was a bank holiday on Monday, so a four day weekend, yay!
So what did I do then?  Well, on Friday, the gas man came to service the boiler.  AND there was a second gas man doing a Green Deal assessment on the house - the only improvement would be to add solar panels apparently.

Once Scottish/British* gas' finest had left, I headed into town to catch up with Pete and the Wetherspoons cider festival.
Cider was drunk.  So was I.  But not so drunk that there were typos when I was texting, so that's not bad.

On Saturday we were out for a meal for our wedding anniversary - 15 years!!!  Really nice curry in the Alishan in Battlefield.

Sunday we met up with Pete and Kerr and more 'spoons cider was drunk.  Though not quite as much as on Friday!

Yesterday was lazy for me as Karen didn't have the day off, so I vegged out with the cats, then in the evening we headed to Troon in the car, just to grab an ice cream and walk along the front. 

Goodbye weekend, hello Monday

So the weekend is over.  On Friday, I took a half day and went to GOMA and Kelvingrove Art Galleries.
There's a new installation that takes up the entire ground floor of GOMA (WARNING - If you've a dust allergy you may want to avoid it) that's made up of sawdust.  It's bloody huge.
To be honest, I don't get it.  I looked at the comments book, and a lot of people nailed it.  It looks like a gigantic cake.
There must be some statement it's (trying) to make, but I just.don't.get.it.  Anyway, onwards to the art galleries, and it was hoaching with schoolkids who seemed to be getting their art class there. (here's paper and pencils, go draw something).  There was some primary kids getting shown round the Egyptian room - cue female outrage that only men could be scribes in ancient Egypt - who seemed to love it.  I admit, I did listen in on the talk they were being given, and it was brilliant.

Saturday we nipped into town and spent the credit note I had for Missing Records.  The resultant hall was a couple of dvd's, The Adjustment Bureau, Hostel III and some cd's, Levellers, SRV Live Alive, and Robert Plant - Principle of Moments (currently jammed in the cd drive of the Streamium).

Yesterday, we were determined to go out despite the rain, so picked up a couple of friends, and went for a walk in the Linn Park, with a pause in the middle for lunch in the Old Smiddy.

So, that was that.  My plan for this week is to (finally) dismantle and dispose of the computer desk in the spare room.  When that's done I'll reward myself by digging out the LoTR miniatures, and get set painting them.

That's it, work's over for another week.  Tomorrow we're off to pick up Tracy, and head out to Whitelees Windfarm for a wander round the visitor centre and the forest.  Hope it stays dry, but if today's anything to go by it should be fine.

Work is getting interesting.  There's a project I'm involved in, and it involves fieldwork to collect samples.  At the moment it's from to Glasgow sites, but soon, there'll be a couple of sites in Melrose that we'll be collecting from as well.  I say it's getting interesting, as there's been problems getting the samplers to work, and it's not the same problem each time.  Today at one site we got fantastic samples, but none at the other.  There appears to be a problem with the sampling unit, so we might have to get someone from the compay that installed them to come out and take a look.

In other non-work work related news, I'm organising a hillwalk up Ben Ledi, to raise money for SAMH, at the end of August.  Some of the girls in the office have gone *squeeeee* as they've found somewhere to buy pink walking boots.  Yes, that's right, PINK walking boots.  

On the music front, I'm currently loving the soundtrack to Into the Wild.  Awesome songs from an amazing movie.
